David Haglund sits with me easily because he tries to be unbiased about his writing. Right from the start, in his article about Louie, he mentions how he used to think Girls was the best HBO show out there. He can change his mind and not be set on one show like a lot of other critics out there who seem to ramble on about one series that they’re particular to. He then goes on to explain why it’s a great show based on other comedies out there. Another critic I like who makes great comparisons is Richard Roeper. Roeper in his videos reviews made an excellent point by comparing 21 Jump Street to The Other Guys. Roper brings a realistic and critical view to comedies such as 21 Jump Street where he gave props to actors Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum but not so much anyone else. Matt Zoller Seitz typically writes about more dramatic shows, when he reviewed the second season of Game of Thrones he pointed out the obvious characteristics of the show, while making brilliant observations in the camera work. I like this style of writing because it includes more technical and advanced film terminology. All three of these critics stand out to me because they write smart and unbiased material in ways that are interesting to the viewers.

These articles go into depth on how critics should be objective. They should not be biased toward one show or another based on if they want to be on the show or not. Modern Family is a great show, but if I were a critic I would critically tear it apart if I found a flaw. Greatness is not perfection. I totally agree with the statement about comment sections and social media swaying the critics’ opinion. It must have an influence on the major critics out there. One cool thing from one of the next articles is that Stepinwall reviews 15 or more shows a week and watches them just like most people do at home, week by week. This allows him to get that objective opinion of the show and write about all the exciting, gasping moments right after the show airs.

I clicked on the New York Times ethics policy link and it took me to a site where I clicked on Introduction and Purpose. Apparently its purpose is to enhance society by creating, collecting and distributing high-quality news. Their main focus is content. I clicked on this link because it summed more interesting to me than any others. Saying that Stepinwall hasn’t always been true to the New York Times ethics policy means that he isn’t doing his job of distributing the most high quality news. I also clicked on the link that said “Cameo Appearance on Community”. This made much more sense out of why Alan went on community. He simply didn’t want to turn down an offer, especially one that says, “Do you want to watch the two main female actors fight in oil?” So he jumped in because he likes the show, not because he was trying to be on TV for any reason, but he later realized why he should’ve said no.

1) Shows I'm watching since schools been out:
No time for TV at all!
-Seriously I have no time

2) Peripheral Shows:
Bad Girls Club
Indians Baseball
News
Law and Order
-These are some I might be able to put up with in the background... maybe

3) Guilty No-Gos:
Basketball
Any soap opera
Burn Notice
-I don't care what you say basketball is boring and so are soap operas.

4) Guilty Pleasures:
Two and a Half Men
South Park
-They're dirty but funny as s***

5) All-time favorites:
How I Met Your Mother
Scrubs
Family Guy
It's Always Sunny
Game of Thrones!
-Written so well, makes me laugh or in GOT's case keeps me glued to the TV.

6) Used to like:
The Simpsons
The Big Bang Theory
-Meh, they suck now.

7) Shows Resisted:
Futurama
South Park
-People said they were better than the Simpsons but I didn't want to believe them. They were right.

8) Rather eat charcoal than watch:
Glee
Any Musical Show
iCarly
Any "Reality" TV
-Kill me now! It's not reality in any sense. iCarly is for little girls, not college students! and I just can't stand musicals, no offense.

9) Shows I want to work on the set of:
Game of Thrones
Scrubs
-Scrubs would have been a fun set to work on because of their "No Assholes" rule and the great environment. Game of Thrones has more money than they can throw around so working there would be mind blowing for the production value.
